The Toys

These are some character concepts for a story I wrote and am currently illustrating. Why do they look so angry and disgruntled? You'll just have to read the story when it is finished to find out.

Broccoli Loving Dino

Tonight was my first time at a Drink and Draw session. My friend David handed me a piece of cardboard and said to draw a vegetable. Leave it to me to draw a broccoli loving dinosaur. *At first I didn't hear David say to draw a vegetable but when he told me halfway through my drawing that is what I was supposed to be drawing I added this piece of broccoli.*

O-Ren Ishii

For Art Jumble this week the theme was "Girls," so I decided to illustrate an homage to a character from one of my favorite films. O-Ren Ishii is a member of The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol. I, portrayed by Lucy Lui.

Cherry Darling

The model they had dressed as Cherry Darling for the Grindhouse booth at this year's Comic-Con was amazing! The theme this week at Art Jumble is "What You Saw at Comic-Con International 2007" so I decided to draw her...

Here is a picture of her in case you didn't make it there this year. Also, she is a model/actress and if anyone would like to book her as Cherry Darling or for another role visit http://www.amputeeresource.org/Cherry.html

Comic-Con 2007 haul

The Comic-Con in San Diego was nothing short of amazing again this year and I got to feel and talk with many of the artists that inspire me. I didn't get to buy as much as I usually do as many artists opted to sell more expensive hardcover books but I am VERY happy with what I did bring home:

The Art of Deanna Marsigliese - The crown jewel of my collection. She was busy all weekend and was super nice. She is scary talented. Check out her blog...http://pinkydee.blogspot.com/

Belle Du Jour: Cheesecake by Bill Presing - Simply amazing book! His colors and playfully cute girls are inspiring. Check out his blog... http://billpresing.blogspot.com/

Fleet Street Scandal: A collection of Kevin Dart and Chris Turnham - These two artists never cease to awe me. Their textures, compositions and color palette are fantastic!
Check out their site at http://www.fleetstreetscandal.com/

Mandy's Shorts by Dean Yeagle - Another great book by Dean. One of the few more expensive books I bought and well worth it. http://gallery.bellefree.com/dabeagle

J. Scott Campbell Sketchbook 2007 - Was happy to see that J.Scott was selling a sketchbook again this year. He drew a fantastic caricature of Dwight from the Office that just cracks me up. http://www.jscottcampbell.com/

Good Girl Bad Girl by Loter - Finally Loter has released a book and this was well worth the wait. A cute book with a fun poem and fantastic illustrations. This book was a huge hit with even my non artist friends! http://loter.com/

Southern Drawl : A collection of drawings by Scott Tolleson - Another great sketchbook by Stolle. A collection of his rough and finished color illustrations and always inspiring. Check out his blog http://stolleart.blogspot.com/

Glam: A collection by Javier Guzman- I picked up Javier's first sketchbook last year and have been checking his art blog ever since. A great collection of his scribbles and color illustrations. http://www.javier-guzman.blogspot.com/

Chris Sanders Sketchbook 2 - Another awesome book by Chris Sanders.

Whaleboy- A toy created by Patrick Morgan and produced by CrankyStudios
http://www.patrickmorganart.blogspot.com/

Dexter's Laboratory: Zappo Change-O - A fun Little Golden book illustrated by Genndy Tartakovsky that I picked up from the Stuart NG booth that you can find at Amazon.com

7 postcards: Fun postcards with whimsical little illustrations. Check out http://conducthappiness.com/ to get a better look.

Cartoon Network tote bag: I won this bag by tossing a bean bag over by shoulder backwards and having it land on the correct character that was printed on the beanbag.

Ruthless Robert

This is an illustration of my friend and coworker Robert. Give this man a marker and he will draw unbelievably cruel and hilarious caricatures that will give even the most secure individuals a complex. After seeing one of Robert's caricatures I am pretty sure another one of my coworker's went and bought Rogaine on his way home from work. Hahaha. And yes, that is a brilliant caricature of me that he is holding up that was drawn many weeks ago by Ruthless Robert. It hangs in my cubicle at work and makes me laugh!

Cyclops

In Greek mythology a Cyclops is a member of a primordial race of giants, each with a single round eye in the middle of its forehead. In one of the most famous passages of Homer's Odyssey, the hero Odysseus encounters the Cyclops Polyphemus, the son of Poseidon and Thoosa, who lives with his fellow Cyclopes in a distant country.
